Our camp was operated from the early 50's by the Fisheries Research Board of Canada which was involved in various fish studies with the objective being to break the cycle of the parasite that caused cysts in whitefish. The government biologists ended their involvement at Heming Lake in the late 80's and the camp sat abandoned until the provincial government put it up for bid in 1994. Heming Lake is located 70 air miles north of our Lodge. It is part of a chain of small lakes which contain walleye and medium-sized northern pike. Because the lakes are small and narrow, the fish are easy to find and wind is never a problem. The angling is nothing short of phenomenal right from ice-out until late September, but as a wilderness angling adventure rather than a meat source.

Heming Lake sits north/south and is approximately 5 miles long and 1/2 to 3/4 mile wide. We have two 18 foot boats with motors on Heming Lake. A half-mile portage trail connects Heming to Home Lake where we have a cache of two more boats. You can access Demarch Lake from Home by travelling through a short narrows - allowing you to fish three lakes from our Heming Lake Outcamp. The Heming Lake Outcamp is accessible by float plane and rail. One float plane is located in Cranberry Portage which is 55 miles from our Lodge, so the flight is only 15 minutes and, therefore, very economical. There is another operator based near The Pas and this flight will take approximately 35 minutes. The railway track passes within a quarter mile of our camp. Although this is by far the least expensive means of travel, you'll find train schedules in Northern Manitoba operate somewhat erratically, so it's not unusual to spend the better part of the day on train travel.

Our facilities at Heming Lake consist of two log cabins with bunkbeds equipped with foam mattresses. You just bring your own sleeping bag and pillow. The cabins have wood burning stoves that double as fireplaces. Cooking is done on a 3-burner propane stove or propane barbecue; we supply all the cooking equipment. There is one propane fridge in the larger cabin and propane lights. Heming lake is a beautiful, tranquil spot that offers a remote outdoor adventure with easy and economical access. Quite simply put, we guarantee you'll love it there as much as we do.
